Type Material
Holotype: “Male holotype from Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, Pima County, Arizona, August 31, 1961, D. C. Rentz, deposited in AMNH” (Muma & Brookhart, 1988, p. 23).
Measurements: “Male moderate sized; CP 9.6. Legs long; A/CP 6.6” (Muma & Brookhart, 1988, p. 25).
Ctenidia Description: “2 long flattened abdominal ctenidia that are nearly as long as width of succeeding sternite (fig. 66)” (Muma & Brookhart, 1988, p. 25). Chelicerae Description: “Males distinguished by enlarged mesal flange of mesoventral groove and large, elongate blade-like, dorsal process of fixed cheliceral finger that is peaked over basal half of fondal notch; lack of anterior process on movable cheliceral finger…Fondal notch nearly as wide as long; length/width ratio 1.1, and with 2 slender teeth clearly visible in fondal notch from ectal view (fig. 65). Mesal tooth of movable cheliceral finger indistinct. Movable cheliceral finger distinctly sinuate from a dorsal or ventral view with posterior intermediate tooth located in basal angle of principal tooth and finger margin” (Muma & Brookhart, 1988, p. 25).
Diagnosis:
Other Information: “The unusual cheliceral structure and the late summer collection date cause us to incline this species provisionally. It may be a Mexican species belonging to a different species-group of Eremobates Banks” (Muma & Brookhart, 1988, p. 25). Eremobates pimanus Brookhart & Muma 1979 – male holotype Pipe Org. Nat’l. Notes: Tarsus and distal end of metatarsus of palp dark (photo). No papillae. Two long ctenidia reaching almost to subsequent segment (photo). The distal FF “bump” that is the synapomorphy of the palpisetulosus group is quite diff on E. pimanus. It is not a bump so much as a raised ridge. |
