Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States
A thin-bodied, pale-green species with long forewings that lack spots. Like most Melanoplus species, it is marked with a black stripe extending from behind the eye across the lateral lobes of the pronotum. Hind femora lack bands or stripes. Hind tibiae are greenish blue. Males are 24-26 mm long, females 26-28 mm.
In males, the extensions of the furcula are very broad in the basal and central regions, abruptly tapering to narrow points that point inward. The cerci taper gradually, twisting inward and bearing a slight depression at the tips. |
