Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States
A robust species, yellowish brown or brownish gray and lighter below. Lateral lobe of the pronotum bears a black stripe. Forewings are spotted and extend beyond the tip of the abdomen. Abdomen is marked with black and yellow bands. Hind femora are yellowish brown and bear two oblique dark bands. Hind tibiae are normally red tinged with purple, but sometimes greenish. Males are 17-21 mm long, females 19-24 mm.
In males, the cerci are slightly constricted near the midpoint, grooved at the tip, and curve inward. The furcula is short and the extensions widely separated. |
