A small but heavy-bodied species, grayish brown or reddish brown dorsally and yellow ventrally. A black stripe extends from the back of the eye onto the lateral lobe of the pronotum. Forewings are reddish brown, sometimes bearing a few speckles. They normally extend over about two-thirds of the abdomen in females, and three-fourths in males, but long-winged individuals also occur. Hind femora are yellowish brown and bear two or three dark angled bands on the outer face. Hind tibiae are normally red. Males are 17-20 mm long, females 20-25 mm.
In males, the cerci are only moderately wide and slightly narrowed at the midpoint. The tips are rounded and curve inward. The furcula is very small. The tip of the subgenital plate is extended. |
