Field Guide to Grasshoppers, Katydids, and Crickets of the United States
A robust, wingless species, brownish above and lighter below. It bears contrasting light and dark markings, including a light-colored stripe on the top of the abdomen in some individuals. The face sometimes bears red markings. Hind femora are greenish with black of variable intensity on the outer face, and reddish on the lower surface. Prosternal spine near the base of the front legs is weakly developed. Hind tibiae are blackish at the base and red distally, or entirely reddish. This small species is 18-25 mm long.
